iPhone Apps

iOS (known as iPhone OS before June 2010) is Apple's mobile operating system. Originally developed for the iPhone, it has since been extended to support other Apple, Inc. devices such as the iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV. Apple, Inc. does not license iOS for installation on third-party hardware. As of May 31, 2011 (2011 -05-31), Apple, Inc.'s App Store contains more than 500,000 iOS applications, which have collectively been downloaded more than 15 billion times. In the last quarter of 2010, it had a 26% share of the smartphone operating system market in terms of units sold, behind Google's Android and Nokia's Symbian. As of May 2010, it accounted for 59% of mobile web consumption—including both the iPod Touch and the iPad—in North America.
The user interface of iOS is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch gestures. Interface control elements consist of sliders, switches, and buttons. The response to user input is immediate and provides a fluid interface....

Don’t Get Me Wrong, I Love The iPhone series, and will LOVE the iPhone 5

but I think it’s time that the media (myself included I guess) stopped making this release into such a huge deal. I mean, come on! There have been no less than 1,000 different news sources in that past 3 days with their various speculations as to the release of the iPhone 5. If Apple was smart, they would push back this release for as long as they can control it. In August, the date was set for September sometime, now that we are almost through September people are speculating that the newest iPhone will be announced on September 5th. Get it? iPhone 5 announced on the 5th… that’s the best we can come up with?
I mean, let’s at least get creative? Most other people are projecting September 4th… wow… big leap there. That’s kinda like playing on the safe side, cause now… if you’re wrong, you can say that it was a time zone thing right? Look, I’m not knocking anyone for guessing, but let’s face it. Apple WANTS this hype… Let me show you something.
Apple Stock Prices
For those of you that aren’t quite sure what this illustrates, I’ll explain… This is a chart of Apples stock prices for the past FIVE years. Now is when you say “Man, I wish I had a time machine and could be some shared back in late 2006″. Stock prices for Apple have NEVER been higher than they are right now, and that’s during a really hard time for the financial sector. Now, I’ll show you one more that should solidify my point as to why, if I was Apple, I wouldn’t be in too much of a hurry to release this new phone.
Apple Stocks (monthly)

This is right around the time Apple NORMALLY releases their new phones:

  • iPhone – Jun 29th, 2007
  • iPhone 3G – July 11th, 2008
  • iPhone 3Gs – June 19th, 2009
  • iPhone 4 – June 24th, 2010

This is their current stock price after letting the hype build up

Now look, I’m not economist, and I definitely don’t have as many shares in Apple as I would like to, but let’s face it… it’s business! They are making their shareholders SOOOO happy by keeping this information behind closed doors. They know, based on evidence they’ve gathered from ALL of their past releases, that as soon as they announce the phone, show the features, get it on the market and start to sell it… stock prices will take a bit of a hit after the hype is all over. That’s how it goes in the “circle of life”. So Apple Inc. figures, “If stock prices are going to drop a little, might as well get them REALLY high before that happens, so the end results is still an increase”. That makes sense right?
I say hurray Apple! Way to go guys! In February of 2009 you were trading at $195/ share and have made your way up to almost $420/ share in one of the worst economies we’ve seen…. And this latest jump wasn’t even because you sold a product, it’s because people THINK you might sell a product. Truth of the matter is, no one has really confirmed the iPhone 5 is even in production.
Apple told their foreign suppliers to increase their productivity, and many people took that as a sign that the iPhone 5 is coming out. That and the fact that Apple has had a new phone EVERY year for… ever (it seems like that at least). So as you sit back waiting for the new peak in technology to hit stores, remember that NOW might be the time to buy a couple extra shares in this behemoth while you still can.
And may I say, whether it’s October 4th, 5th, or sometime in 2012, I sure as heck can’t wait to see if it lives up to all the hype. Pressures on Apple!

New iPhone 5 – Out Of Body Experience?

The iPhone 5 Will Be Shaped Different From The iPhone 4

That might be a slight assumption, but let’s face it, why would they release a NEW phone that looks like the old one? I know it makes sense financially for, them in the short term, to release a phone with the same body just because sales of the iPhone 4 are still amazing and that would mean it’d be cheaper for Apple to produce the iPhone 5‘s 200 Million (that’s the projection) proposed units for the next years worth of sales.
But think about it, again this comes down to them doing what’s right for them. When the iPhone 4 came out they took a BATH for a while because they had to offer a case for the phone, and that really dug into their overall numbers. They make a ton of money from the accessory products that are sold with an iPhone 4 and they just couldn’t sell all that many accessories after having to give the case away for free. So why on earth would they release the iPhone 5 NOW without it being at least different enough in size that you would need a new case? Makes sense when you really think about it.
I’ve seen conflicting reports all over the internet about how the new iPhone 5 will have the same ‘body’ as the iPhone 4, just a better camera and potentially a better processor. Well that’s an obvious fact! I mean, come on… the iPad 2 has a better processor than the iPhone 4 so we know they have the technology to make it better, they just have to shrink it. The camera HAS to get better because the Droid Bionic came out just last week and it has a better camera. That’d be like pulling up to a race against a bunch of 2012 Mercedes in a 1985 BMW, it just wouldn’t fair well for the BMW.
So all in all, there is absolutely NO reason for a company like Apple to produce the iPhone 5 with the same body as the 4.

Why Release The iPhone 5 At All Right Now?

I have to admit, the timing is good in some ways, and bad in others. It’s almost holiday season which seems to have Apple’s interest peaked. If I were to guess I would assume they are releasing the iPhone 5 now, so they can release the iPad 3 closer to the holidays and make Apple lovers around the world ask for both as their gifts. Pretty amazing way to dominate Christmas guys! I think a lot of factors are playing into the release date to be honest -
  • Less Sales Of Accessories For iPhone 4 Because Of Antenna Problems
  • Holiday Season Is Around The Corner And Little Jimmy Loves New Tech
  • Droid Bionic Was Recently Released And Apple Had To See That Coming
  • People Are Still Critical Of The Horrible Antenna On The iPhone 4
  • The iPhone 3g Is Basically Done For, Now They Can Replace It With The iPhone 4
  • We’re Apple… We Do What We Want!
Obviously those aren’t ALL of the reasons, just the ones I see most readily available. I also heard a rumor that the new iOS 5 would be released soon, and that just simply can’t happen until the iPhone 5 comes out. If they were smart, they would release the iPhone 5, and then put the new iOS 5 on a delay for iPhone 4 users. That way, those who MUST HAVE the newest and best will pony up and get the iPhone 5 and everyone else can just wait until that buying frenzy dies down and get the upgrade on iTunes.
Either way you shake it, I am iExcited for this new phone and can’t wait to get my hands on the iPhone 5 – I’ll make sure to keep you all in the loop on release date and important information regarding the iPhone 5 Release
